Microinverters
Microinverters are designed for AC current only and allow for each individual panel to be tied to it's own unique inverter. Distributing inverters and panels this way reduces the effect of dust, debris, and shade on the array. Multiple inverters also Elamite single point system failure, allowing for a malfunctioning panel to be easily identified and diagnosed, effectively eliminating 'the Christmas light effect'.
String Inverters
Enphase does not manufacture string inverters.
Centralized or string inverters convert power from DC (panel/battery arrays) to the more direct and commonplace AC voltages. String Inverters tie in multiple solar panels under a single inverter in situations where multiple solar panels are needed to increase the total voltage and keep the current low. When multiple panels are strong together this way, if a problem occurs it will cause the entire array to malfunction and all the panels must then be individually tested to determine which is causing the system to fail.

This includes the Environ Smart Thermostat which helps Enphase system owners save time, energy and money through better control of their heating and cooling system.
